The “coolest capital”, Wellington, celebrates the wind everyday

June 16, 2013

I’d never heard of it, but it seems on the 15th June each year it’s  “Global Wind Day ”  As my city, as well as being the Capital of Cool, is also called the windy city (‘Windy Wellington’) and celebrates that element. For more about the wind see New Zealand’s online encyclopaedia Te Ara

See another blog I’ve written about this public art here  (on the road to the  airport) and what Lonely Planet says about this “coolest little capital in the world

Love the photos of the wire like flax at the end of your post. It’s such a great, colourful walk that one. It inspired me to write a poem a little while back: http://www.catchingthemagic.com/2013/05/the-colourful-side-of-the-wind-in-wellington/

    - and I never knew there was a ‘Global Wind Day’ either!!
